Your cart gets updated and still no mention of getting updates for only one year. So, when you add it to your cart you'll get a popup to upgrade to Objects Desktop for a heavily discounted price, ok seems like a good deal. Nor on its product page, nor when it's in your cart. The Fences page does not list that you'll only get updates for a single year. In my case, I found out about Fences somewhere on the internet and wanted to buy it. Firstly, I think it's highly debatable whether this is "very well known info". Sorry but that is just totally unreasonable. Just no more updates after a year.īut you have to activate the programs to work how do u activate a archived program that u just installed without a working activation key since the subscription has ended? cause wont it ask for the activation key if you install the program u archived and after the subscription ends the key is removed along with my download on the account right? If you save them to your PC, you have them forever, even if you stop renewing. This way, you have all the different versions that you are entitled to, because OSes change. I recommend archiving all your apps at least quarterly. Very well known info, if you follow the forums, which you should if you pay good money for a product. If your subscription dies, after a while, you lose access to your downloads page. It is all over these forums that if you go to the store, while your subscription is active, and download/archive your programs, you can always use them. I saw $50 for a suite of pretty cool software that I assumed i would be able to use forever Maybe make it clearer to your customers that they have to pay annually for your software and you wouldn't have disgruntled customers like myself complaining on your forums. Even when you go to renew, it says "renew your access for $29" but it doesn't actually state that that renewal is only valid for 1 year. it is no different than what you are doing with Object Desktop.Īlso looking everywhere on the site, no where does it say you only get access for 1 year, ANYWHERE. Instead I saw $50 for a suite of pretty cool software that I assumed i would be able to use forever just to find out a year or so later that I have to basically repurchase it? Honestly, making your customers pay for updates to software you also make them buy outright is just greedy marketing, do you do the same for the games you develop? Here, buy Ashes of the Singularity on Steam, but now that you bought it, you have to pay us for the newest patch. You don't pay $30 a year to keep WINDOWS updated or your favorite games, so why should I have to pay that for a piece of software I already paid for? As a matter of fact, I paid $200 for music production software, that includes lifetime updates for free, and I would have gladly paid the same for this if it included lifetime updates. This is a very poor model, because when I bought it, there was no indication ANYWHERE that it was a subscription based service. I purchased Object Desktop awhile ago, never had the need to update it and then upgraded my PC to Windows 10 and decided to check back and see if I could re install Object Desktop on Windows 10, low and behold I paid $50 for a program I cant even DOWNLOAD now, even without the current updates.
