![]() If you first understand that, then you will see how impossible it is to organize a belief. “Truth, being limitless, unconditioned, unapproachable by any path whatsoever, cannot be organized nor should any organization be formed to lead or to coerce people along any particular path. He considered the formation of any sort of organisation detrimental to the realisation of one’s individual truth. He announced that he had made this decision after carefully considering it for two years. “I maintain that Truth is a pathless land, and you cannot approach it by any path whatsoever, by any religion, by any sect.” However, soon after he assumed the position he had been groomed his entire life for, he renounced the title and dissolved the organisation with the powerful declaration: Among his peers, Jiddu Krishnamurti (1895 - 1986) stands alone as an example of self-abnegation in his pursuit of truth and spirituality.Ĭhosen at a very early age to be the new World Teacher of the Order of Star, Krishnamurti led a highly regulated and disciplined life. Many so-called enlightened leaders have faltered due to a growing obsession with their own personas and tenets. Freedom is found in the choiceless awareness of our daily existence and activity. What starts out as sound spiritual guidance is often overtaken by a cult of personality. In observation one begins to discover the lack of freedom. Freedom is without motive freedom is not at the end of the evolution of man but lies in the first step of his existence. Freedom is pure observation without direction, without fear of punishment and reward. It is man’s pretence that because he has choice he is free. So he is not an individual.įreedom is not a reaction freedom is not choice. So I decided to let the theory go and ended up following my own path. I spent far more time watching his videos and reading his books, than actually spending time in silence or going for walks. In fact, I went to observe the school that Krishnamurti developed called Brockwood Park School, and almost ended up becoming a teacher there.Īfter studying K for about a year or so, I found myself a little stuck. I read the book Freedom from the Known (the link contains extracts), and I was hooked. I first came across K when I was around 21 years old. It’s a space designed to reflect on his teachings in a natural environment, free from any coercion, timetable or pressure. This week I’d like to share what I learnt in my stay at The Krishnamurti Centre in Hampshire, UK. and certainly he would strongly reject the claim to be a guru. He’s not really a philosopher or teacher. If you’re read any of his books, you’ll know it’s hard to call him anything.
